Loving our country and giving thanks for its blessings can inspire us to serve our communities and work for the common good. Yet our faith also reminds us that our deepest allegiance belongs to God. When national identity takes precedence over our identity in Christ, or when Christianity becomes a means to gain political power, we risk conflating the kingdoms of this world with the kingdom of God.

This five-day devotional is designed to help you go deeper into the questions raised in Can You Love America Too Much? Patriotism, Nationalism, and Following Jesus.

Over the next five days, you’ll reflect on Scripture and consider what it means to love your country without making it an idol, to seek justice without demonizing others, and to approach political differences as a follower of Jesus.

My hope is that these reflections will help us become people who love our neighbors, tell the truth, seek justice, and work for the good of all—while remembering that our ultimate hope is not found in a nation, political party, or leader, but in Jesus Christ.
